MDTP 2025-2026 NEWS: Field Testing Opportunities and Open-Response Items Updates

Dear Educators,
I hope you all had a restful summer break and a great start to the new school year!
Below, you’ll find details about how to participate in MDTP Assessment Field Testing and updates on accessing MDTP’s open-response items (WRIs and FRCIs).

FIELD TESTING

Field Testing is a crucial part of developing our MDTP assessments. It ensures that each test is aligned with the subject matter and that resulting data accurately reflects students’ understanding. This year, we are field testing the following exams and would greatly appreciate your participation:

  • Assessment of Preparedness for 8th Grade Mathematics (8M40D25) – For students entering 8th grade and enrolled in a standard 8th grade math class.
  • Second Year Algebra Readiness Parallel Versions D, E, and F (SR45D25, SR45E25, SR45F25) – Designed for Algebra 2 students. We ask teachers to divide their classes into three random groups and assign each group one of the three field-test versions.
  • Quantitative Reasoning Readiness (QR45D25) – Intended for students who are not yet ready for precalculus and for teachers who want to assess the foundational math skills (designed for seniors)
  • Calculus Readiness (CR45D25) – For students entering a first course in calculus

If you’re able to participate, please email mdtp@ucla.edu and indicate which exam(s) you can field test. Your time and support are invaluable to us. Thank you for helping us improve the quality of our assessments!

OPEN RESPONSE ITEMS

MDTP’s open-response items (WRIs and FRCIs) are now available on our Online Readiness Platform.  To access them, log into your MDTP account and locate “Open Response Items” on the horizontal menu (as shown in the screen captures below).  You can filter items by topic and first-appropriate course, and sort them after filtering. If you do not see the “Open Response Items” option, try clearing your browser cache and refreshing the page.
